Soothing Waters
a lullaby for voice and piano

There are many ways that music can be healing. One is by reminding us of our soul's delight in expressing itself through our physical body. This song is a lullaby that is meant to be danced to. That dance can be within your cells, your heart or through your body.

The pentatonic (5 tone) scale is used throughout the world. It is found in our modern Western culture when we play a song using only the black notes on a piano. This scale is one of the easiest to improvise within. In a very broad sense the pentatonic scale represents the Divine Feminine while the more common major scale (the white notes on a piano) represents the masculine.

PS - Pentatonic, Major, Minor or other sets of notes are merely a way of defining individual notes position relative to each other. One can sing or play a pentatonic scale with any set of notes that contain the appropriate relationship, one to another. Just as one can play a C major scale, one can also play a D major scale. In modern tuning the notes have virtually the same relationship to each other. This has not always been true. Up until about 1850 different tunings of a keyboard were used to make scales different from each other.
